Day 2 started with a crack of dawn departure at noon, having spent the morning organizing what goes where in the campers and cars, getting ice and having breakfast. The weather was gorgeous with sunshine and blue sky predicted all day. We headed North, back up the Skyline drive to the trail head for Mary’s Rock trail 3.7 miles, 1184 elevation gain. Great hike, despite being in clouds for most of it. The clouds were obscuring the view when we first got to the top, but patience paid off and they departed to reveal the Shenandoah valley in all its glory and layers of mountains behind. Then back down, back into the clouds and back to the campsite where we staked out a good spot to watch the sunset (if the clouds stay away).
