Day 100 – 104: Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore

Our 4 day Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore stay was at the AuTrain Lake Campground. Soon after we arrived we experienced smoke from Canada’s Forest Fires. The Air Quality Index (AQI), started off at 527 (Extremely Hazardous) on Thursday!

Sally headed back to Webster the next day. She has been a great travel companion throughout our National Park Tour and will be missed as she heads back to England. Cheerio Sally!

We started Friday by exploring the Great Slide. Back in the days, the lumber industry was huge here. They sent timbered trees into Lake Superior down a giant Sand Dune which were then floated down the lake to be processed.

The next several day included hikes on trails leading to falls, beaches and overlooks. Pictured Rocks got it’s name from the multi-colored huge cliffs and rock formations along a 14 mile stretch of coastline on Lake Superior.

The smoke continues.

We explored a nearby town named Munising. A charming town with Shops, Restaurants, Pictured Rock Boat and Kayak Tours and the By George Brewery.
