We arrived at Mt St Helens, WA at about 1pm on June 3rd. First stop was Ape Caves, a 2 mile lava tube that you climb down into and find your way through, in the pitch black, to the other end. Mary and Bob headed into the caves and since I’ve already done it, I did the Ape Cave hike which took me above ground to the end of the caves. Then we all headed up to a lookout point to view Mt St Helens, but unfortunately she was shrouded in clouds. The next day Becky arrived from near Seattle and we all headed out on a 10 mile hike to the Mt St Helens Johnson Observatory. It was a big one with 1,800 feet of elevation and some tricky spots, but every inch of it was gorgeous, with views of Mt St Helens, wild flowers, and the changing landscape as we got closer to the volcano.
Mary & Bob are spending the next week in Seattle with Caitie & Brianna and I am in Belfair with Becky and Phil. Adventures to continue in Glacier NP on June 15th.
Over and out!!
